Itinerary of Hiking in Morocco’s Atlas Mountains 

Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Azib n Tamsoult: 

You will begin your 6-hour hike out of the Imlil Valley and into the Azzadene Valley after being transferred from Marrakech to Imlil (1,780m) on Day 1. You will cross the Tizi N’Mzik at 2,450 meters, the Azib n’Tansoult refuge, and the Ighouliden waterfalls on the way. Spend the night at the 3,000-meter Lipeney mountain shelter. 

Day 2: Toubkal – Azib n Tamsoult – Agelzim 3560m:

Today requires a very challenging ascent over the 3,560m-high Aguelzim Mountain pass from the Azzadene Valley to the Toubkal Refuge. Lunch will be served while admiring the breathtaking Atlas Mountain Range. Spend the night at the Toubkal Refuge (Niltner Hut), where you’ll probably share a bunk room with other hikers who are starting their ascent of Toubkal early the next morning.

Day 3: Toubkal – Imlil: 

Get up early to ascend Toubkal (4,167m), from where, if the clouds cooperate, you’ll get stunning views of the Atlas Mountains and the Sahara Desert. From there, it will be a long descent via the refuge and a well-traveled trail that will bring you back to Imlil. It will take 8 to 9 hours to complete the 900 m ascent and about 2,500 m descent to Imlil, where you will spend the night.

Day 4: Imlil – Dades Valley

At 9:00 am, you will be picked up from your Imlil lodging and driven across the breathtaking Tizi-n-Tichka mountain pass as you leave the Atlas Mountains. Numerous Berber settlements will be seen along the way, and once in the desert, you’ll come across a riverbank oasis and desolate hills studded with kasbahs, which are walled structures that shelter inhabitants and their animals. You might choose to stop along the road for a stroll or a break to check out the Ouarzazate Film Studios. You may choose between taking a trek or unwinding at your accommodation after you get to Dades Gorge. Dades for the night. (Six hours total driving time) 

Day 5: Todra Gorge and Dades Valley to Merzouga

Hotel breakfast is available. Transfer from the Dades Valley to the Todra Gorge, a vast fissure that separates the High Atlas mountains and rises 300 meters in a little valley lined with palm trees and Berber communities. You may take a trip through this area to discover the palmary, a lush oasis full of enormous date trees. You’ll continue on into the desert after lunch to the gateway town of Merzouga to gather supplies for your excursion. After that, you’ll continue driving to a kasbah to pick up your camel. You’ll go on a camel for an hour and a half after sundown to a Berber camp, where you’ll have a traditional Moroccan meal and spend the night in a tent or beneath the stars in the desert.

Day 6: Merzouga to Ait Benhaddou

After waking up to a desert sunrise, ride a camel back to the Kasbah. After that, you’ll have time to get ready and have breakfast. After you have had time to rest, you will leave the desert and drive to Ait Benhaddou. This is a historic walled city with uncountable kasbahs that has been used as the setting for a number of Hollywood films, including The Mummy, Gladiator, Alexander, Lawrence of Arabia, and others. Along with your guide, you will have the ability to stroll among the structures and investigate. You’ll spend the night in a hotel near Ait Benhaddou. (5–6 hours total driving time)

Day 7: Ait Benhaddou to Marrakech

Visit the Telouet Kasbah, a collapsing kasbah that was once a significant trading hub, by traveling down the Ounilla Valley. After having lunch, explore the Kasbah before returning to Marrakech through the Tizi-n-Tichka Pass (total driving time: 4 hours).
