The full program for the camel trekking in M’hamid, Morocco

Day 1: Trekking From M’hamid To Sidi Naji

Our first trekking day in Morocco will start from the M’hamid desert towards the famous Erg dunes in that region. We will find the camels’ team waiting for us at the starting point in M’hamid to teach us about how to deal with camels for the first time and give us an overview of the itinerary of the trekking we are about to experience in the Sahara including the sights we will visit and the dunes where we will camp the nights. First, we will arrange our luggage on camels then we head to the first destination ‘Sidi Naji. The walking trip begins immediately with camels through the sand dunes. At the end of palm trees grove, we will stop for a break and lunch. After the pause, you continue walking to Sidi Naji enjoying different desert landscapes and sceneries. Upon arriving at Sidi Naji, we set up our camp for the night.

Day 2: Sidi Naji – Erg Ezzahar

After a relaxing night in Sidi Naji, we will wake up to have our breakfast and continue our trekking in the Sahara desert of Morocco. Our destination for today’s trekking will be the famous large sand dune of Ezzahar, which we will reach before lunch. The trekking will cross a largely flat, plateau of Dried lake and while you continue walking you start seeing big sand dunes. We set up the camp at the foot of the sand dunes to take our lunch and relax for a while. Later, we get ready to explore the Erg Ezzahar with the goal of reaching the highest point of the dunes to admire the wind which sounds like a silent musical rhythm and enjoy the sunset. The views over the highest point are marvelous. Overnight at the camp with the group enjoying the stories of the desert and dunes of Erg Ezzahar which is also called the screaming dunes. 

The trekking time from Sidi Naji to Erzzahar may take 4 hours or more.

Day 3: Erg Ezzahar – Erg Bougarne

On the third day of our trekking in the Sahara desert of M’hammid, we will wake up you early in the morning to not miss the breathtaking sunrise over the high dunes of M’hamid, Morocco. Then, after having your breakfast, we take the camels and begin trekking and walking through the nomadic Sahara desert.

The camel trekking will take about 3 to 4 hours before reaching the point where lunch will serve and take a pause at the same time. After the refresh, we continue our trekking adventure in the Sahara desert of Morocco with another 3 or 2 hours of walking, to reach the Erg Bougarne, the dunes are magical and offer a cool feeling. In the evening, we will set up a Berber camp to enjoy the night under the starry sky setting around the fire and listening to the Gnawa music.

Day 4: Erg Bougarne – M’hamid (last day of trekking in Morocco’s Sahara desert)

On the last day of the trekking in M’hamid, Morocco, we will attend the panoramic sunrise, take breakfast, and depart Erg Bougarne. Our trekking will take the Sahara desert towards the M’hamid El Ghislane village. 

The trekking may take about 2 to 3 hours walking with camels. The break for lunch will be served in the center of the desert (the half of the road).

Then we trek the camels and ride back via the mesmerizing desert landscape until we arrive in M’hamid. In the village of M’hamid, you can take shower for refreshing and you’re free to choose either to leave or to stay one more night in M’hamid.

What do you wear for the camel ride?

Be sure to wear full and loose clothes on your camel ride, especially on the desert space tour. If you want to wear shorts, long shorts are recommended. Hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, and comfortable shoes are also advised to make your camel ride more comfortable.
