8-Day Marrakech Desert Tour, Detailed Plan

Day 1: Marrakech – Ait Benhaddou – ouarzazate

That day is unique because we will meet you in Marrakech for the first time, either in your accommodation or at the airport. Then, we start our 8-day tour from Marrakech to the Sahara Desert. After having the first contact with Marrakech, we will visit some famous sites such as the Koutoubia Mosque, L’mnara Garden, Secret, and Majorelle Garden. Lunch at one of the local restaurants. Later, we head to the most famous Kasbah in Morocco, Ait Ben Haddou Kasbah. The Kasbah is a UNESCO World Heritage Site for its history and gorgeous traditional Berber architecture. It’s an inspiring site for many directors who choose the site for filming. Also, famous movies were shot here such as Gladiator and Game of Thrones. After discovering this attraction, we continue driving to reach Ouarzazate, also called the Hollywood of Africa. Dinner and night in Ouarzazate. 

Day2: ouarzazate – skoura – kalaat Mgouna – Boumalne dades

We take our breakfast first then we continue our Desert Marrakech Tour by driving to Dades Gorges. We first stop in Skoura where we can see the beautiful nature, take pictures, and relax. Then, we drive via Thousand Kasbahs Road, along the line, you will smell the roses. Here you understand that you are in Kalat Magouna, known as the capital of roses. You can visit a local women-cooperative to see the processes of making roses products. Then, we take our lunch here in this beautiful village tasting local food. When you’re done, we depart for Boumalne Dades, where you can enjoy watching the beautiful mountains with the panoramic view of the Dades Valley. Overnight and dinner here.  

Day3: Boumalne dades – N’koub – Zagora

On the third day of our 8-day Marrakech desert tour, our driver will take through the Dades Valley road to reach the desert of Zagora. On our way, we will pass through several small villages until we arrive in N’koub Village where we will stop to see some Kasbahs. N’koub is a village with the highest number of Kasbahs in Morocco. The village is located near the famous mountain of Jebel Shaghro. Tourists can discover the Kasbahs and hike the mountain of Saghro. Later, we head to Zagora village where we will spend the night.

Day 4: Zagora – M’hamid

Our Marrakech Desert adventure starts in the M’hamid desert. After having our breakfast, the camel man will give you an overview of the camel trekking journey, also, he will teach you how to ride camels and treat them for more safety. Then, we prepare what we will need and our luggage on camels and start the trekking. First, we will explore the oasis of M’hamid and Er Lihoudi. M’hamid is one of the preferred deserts for hiking and walking because of what offer to visitors. We will camp for the night in Sidi Naji.   

Day 5: Desert bivouac soufage

Today is dedicated to walking in the desert, we will wake up to have our breakfast and continue our trekking in the Sahara desert of M’hamid. Our destination for today’s trekking will be the famous large sand dune of Ezzahar, which we will reach before lunch. The trekking will cross a largely flat, plateau of Dried Lake and while you continue walking you start seeing big sand dunes. We set up the camp at the foot of the sand dunes to take our lunch and relax for a while. Later, we get ready to explore the Erg Ezzahar with the goal of reaching the highest point of the dunes to admire the wind which sounds like a silent musical rhythm, and enjoy the sunset. The views over the highest point are marvelous. Overnight at the camp. 

Day 6: Desert-Erg Chegaga

That day will be unique because we will reach the enormous sand dunes of Erg Chegaga. After having a traditional breakfast at sunrise, we have to hike again on the rocky, flat, and sandy area. While you’re trekking in the desert, the big dunes of Erg Chegaga will be seen even before reach it. Once we arrived at Erg Chegaga, we will attend the breathtaking sunset from the biggest dunes in North Africa and Morocco. The hiking dunes of Erg Chegaga will allow you to live a memorable desert adventure in Morocco. Erg Chigaga is a famous place covering one of the highest dunes in Morocco and in Africa as well. The trek takes about 30 min to reach the top of the dune. We will camp in these beautiful dunes in Nomadic traditional tents.

Day 7: erg Chegaga – Taznakht – Ait Benhaddou

In the morning we will leave for Ait Benhadou Kasbah. We end our desert trekking and start exploring the Moroccan famous Kasbahs. We will drive to Taznakht, a small village in the Ouarzazate region known for handicrafts and traditional products. We will visit a local women-cooperative for traditional carpets. Later, we arrive in Ait Ben Haddou where we will spend the night.

Day 8: Ait Ben haddou – Telouet – Marrakech

After having the last breakfast in this 8-day tour from Marrakech to the desert, we leave back to Marrakech but we will stop to visit the impressive Kasbah of Telouet, an ancient fortress that showcases the region’s rich history and architectural beauty. Admire its intricate design and learn about its historical significance. Upon arrival in Marrakech, we will visit the famous square of Jamaa El’Fna before we end our tour in Morocco.

What do I wear for the camel ride?
